The Eucharistic Face of Jesus

For thousands of years Israel awaited the unveiling of there Messiah. They anticipated this day since the beginning. This was foretold after the fall, and spoken of in types through the whole Old Testament. They wanted to see the Face of the Lords Anointed, they desired his presence, and when He finally came, they did not recognize Him.

From the closed womb of the Immaculate Virgin, only the poor shepherd’s, distance Kings, and the Heavenly Host came to venerate His Divine Countenance, yet the multitudes of His own fold did not. They asked if this was the Carpenters Son. The Scripture tells us the Jews wanted a military conqueror. They were expecting a Messiah to come riding on a white horse, overthrow the Romans and take over the whole world, but instead the Messiah they got, the True One, did not come in riding on a horse but came in riding meek and humbly on an ass. He did not take over Rome by the sword but with love, through violence, yes, the immolation of Himself on the Cross. He didn’t just take over all the known world, but the entire world. They got something better then expected, the Image of the invisible God, yet they did not recognize Him. When He did come, as the Prophets foretold, they beat Him, struck Him, spit upon Him.

The night before, in secret, He gave them the best gift: The gift of the Eucharist. The gift of Himself. Yet the next morn, the peoples where leading him to his death. To remind them of this folly, He left them a relic, a relic on a vail. An image of His Face, battered and torn. An image to remind them that for thousands of years they awaited the unveiling of there Messiah, now here He is. “Ecce homo!”

Even greater then any relic, he left them a Sacrament; the Sacrament of His Real Presence. A sacrament that will recall the great sacrifice that he made, that will show forth his love for all eternity and all ages, a sacrament to heal the wounded world, a sacrament so that at the beck and call of a priest He can be made truly present on all of the altars of the world and come and heal the broken hearts of man in an every age until the end of days. A Sacrament that was also countless foretold of in the Old Testament, and foreshadowed in mere bread and wine. But now this ordinary bread and ordinary wine become much much more. The long awaited Savior of the human race; God.

After this Resurrection many of His disciples didn’t recognize Him. Some even spoke with Him not realizing who they where speaking to. “We hoped, that it was he that should have redeemed Israel.” And did not recognize Him till He revealed Himself to them in the Breaking of the Bread. (see Luke 24:21)
Therefore, how blessed are we? We have The True Bread which came down from Heaven: The Eucharist! The Real Presence of God with us! Emanuel! We are a privileged generation; a generation who can see The Face of God.

Do we recognize that what they did not see?
Do we recognize what we can see, yet is vailed? Do we see Our Lord? Do we seek His Face? “For I say to you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see the things that you see, and have not seen them; and to hear the things that you hear, and have not heard them. “ (Luke 10:24) Can we see God?

Today I propose to you, we can.

What a loss for those who do not have Faith in the Eucharist. “Then they also shall answer him, saying: Lord, when did we see thee hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister to thee? Then he shall answer them, saying: Amen I say to you, as long as you did it not to one of these least, neither did you do it to me. And these shall go into everlasting punishment: but the just, into life everlasting.” (Mathew 25:44-46) When did we see you on alters? When did we see you in Chapels and Churches? When did we see you Sacrificed, offered, and consumed? And He will say to them “In the Eucharist.” “…I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall not hunger: and he that believeth in me shall never thirst. But I said unto you, that you also have seen me, and you believe not. All that the Father giveth to me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me, I will not cast out. Because I came down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him that sent me. Now this is the will of the Father who sent me: that of all that he hath given me, I should lose nothing; but should raise it up again in the last day. And this is the will of my Father that sent me: that every one who seeth the Son, and believeth in him, may have life everlasting, and I will raise him up in the last day.” (John 6:35-40)

Those who do not see, do not want to believe, those who do see, believe in the Word of God, those who do not see, do not have faith in the Eucharistic. Those who know The Word of God, The Word made Flesh, see Him…always. These are the faithful souls who take Communion seriously! Who frequent Adoration Chapels. Make a Holy Hour’s. Simply, souls that love there Lord. We have him here in all the tabernacles in all the Catholic Church’s of the world. Go to Him. Seek His Face. He is truly here. God is here in our mists. Do we see? Or are we like the Great Multitudes, unbelieving and blind. Good News, the Lord can heal those who are blind. Seek Him, and you too will live.

At some point we all must be judged before the Face of the Lord. This is why Holy Writ tells us “And Jesus looking on him, loved him, and said to him: One thing is wanting unto thee: go, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” (Mark 10:21) Why does it say “Jesus looked”? Because this look of the savior changes hearts and inclines the sinner to repentance, the just to deeper conversion, and all to follow Him. This is why Mass, Adoration, the Sacraments changes hearts. Go to Him! “Come to me, all you that labour, and are burdened, and I will refresh you. Take up my yoke upon you, and learn of me, because I am meek, and humble of heart: and you shall find rest to your souls. For my yoke is sweet and my burden light.” (Mathew 11:28-29)

You might be inclined to say why then does Jesus vail His Face in the Eucharist? What about before Ezekiels prophecy? “And I will hide my face no more from them, for I have poured out my spirit upon all the house of Israel, saith the Lord God.” (Ezechiel 39:29)
Let me point you to, after Adam and Eve sinned  “And when they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in paradise at the afternoon air, Adam and his wife hid themselves from the face of the Lord God, amidst the trees of paradise.” ( Genesis 3:8)
Why did they hide from Our Lords Face? Simply, when you see the Face of God you live, yet, if you see His Face in a state of sin, you will die. This is what the Scripture means when it says nobody can see The Face of God and live. (See Exodus 33:20)
Peter knows this well, for the Scripture says “And the Lord turning looked on Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, as he had said: Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And Peter going out, wept bitterly. “ (Luke 22:61-62) Our Lord “…spoke to St. Moses face to face, as a man is wont to speak to his friend…”
St. King David said “My heart hath said to thee: My face hath sought thee: thy face, O Lord, will I still seek. Turn not away thy face from me; decline not in thy wrath from thy servant. Be thou my helper, forsake me not; do not thou despise me, O God my Saviour.” (Psalm 26: 8-9) Sp why then would Our good Lord hide his Face in the Eucharist? For many reason, but mostly for our sake. So we can consume Him. So we can truly exercise our Faith in His words. So our love and desire to see Him without a Vail will increase. But mostly, like the vail in the temple, to hide us from all His Glory or else we may die from the vision of Omnipotent Love. Ultimately every single person if they go to Heaven will contemplate the Holy Face and see Him as He is! (See 1 John 3:2) Every Christian desires to see our Lord face-to-Face in Heaven forever - so start on earth now?

I exhort you then to act like angels who always act with angelic innocent, holiness, meekness, humility, and charity who always keep and “always see the face of my Father who is in heaven.” (Mathew 18:10)
Recognize God has come into the world, taken on Flesh, died, rose again for our salvation and now is awaiting you in the Eucharist. He leaves the ninety-nine to come after you. He has redeems us all, but still wound have come to die just for you. Would have Institute of the Eucharist even if only you where the soul Christian to consume this sacrament.

Lets please God, recognize His Real Presence among us, that beautiful Face that sines like the Sun on Mount Tabor, so in the next life we may See His Face forever and ever. (Apocalypse 22:4)
